That’s right, it’s time once again for Gen Con, the biggest tabletop gaming convention in North America! And just like last year, there will be a bunch of CUDO Plays games, and partners in attendence. Here is the (hopefully) comprehensive rundown of all the various local creators who will have a presence at Gen Con this year.
CUDO Plays Presentation!
Firstly, CUDO Plays is very excited to be giving a talk at this year’s Gen Con. The topic of our presentation is “How to Build a Board Game Design Community.” Something we definitely hope we know a thing or two about by now! If you’re around, please join us Friday at noon. Event is free, but you’ll need to grab a ticket from the link above.
Designer Showcase and Playtest Hall
This year, Designer/Publisher Speed Dating has been replaced by the First Encounter Designer Showcase. Though slightly different in format, this is still a great way for game designers to get their game in front of major publishers. Our own Katie Khau and Jess Chu of Cow&Duck Studios will be in the Designer Showcase pitching Subterranean Cities (Season 4 award-winner) and BlindFold (Season 5 game).
Of course there is also the First Exposure Playtest Hall (FEPH). Any Gen Con attendee can get into the Playtest Hall for free and play some prototype games from aspiring designers. For these designers, this is an unparalleled opportunity to have their creations played by thousands of gamers from around the world. Season 5 favorites Let’s Jam!, and Shape Up! will both be in the FEPH from 4-6pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday!
Elf Creek Games
Our friends at local game publisher Elf Creek Games also have a number of things going on at Gen Con.
Season 4 award-winning game End of the Trail, which Elf Creek successfully Kickstarted, will be available for purchase at booth #2862. Elf Creek will also be running demos of their other game Atlantis Rising, and will have two new game prototypes (though not from local designers) in the First Exposure Playtest Hall. You can learn more about those games here.
CUDO Plays sponsor Champaign-Urbana Adventures in Time and Space will be running more escape rooms than ever before at this year’s Gen Con. Players have four different exciting puzzles to choose from: Castle Dracula, Office Hours, Research Station Gamma, and The Cabin. Each a different genre to suit nerds of any taste!
Wear Your CUDO Plays Shirt!
As always, many members of the CUDO Plays Committee and the C-U gaming community at large will be at Gen Con as attendees and volunteers. If you see a fellow C-U gamer while at Gen Con, make sure to give them a hearty hug, friendly wave, or just a knowing thumbs-up. Also, if you have a CUDO Plays t-shirt, wear it this Friday to show your support for our awesome little competition. Hope to see you there!
