CUDO Plays Recommends
This week we would like to recommend, Castles of the Mad King Ludwig.
In this game, each player is creating a castle for the very eccentric (and entirely nonfictional) King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Players connect room tiles of different shapes and sizes to construct some very impractical floor-plans. Like most tile placement games, you score points based on collecting certain tiles and linking them in beneficial ways. The toughest part of Castles of Mad King Ludwig though is organizing the marketplace. When it’s your turn, new rooms are revealed and you must assign each of them a price. The other players must pay you during that turn when they wish to purchase a new room, so you don’t want to give anything away cheap, but if you make all the attractive rooms too expensive, you might not get paid at all. Despite this stressful and very strategic mechanic, the game remains lighthearted throughout. You can after all build a castle with six kitchens, a mandolin room, and nothing else.
